Mind The Time, Please! Part III

——— A Message To Christian Women ———

May I ask everyone reading this to do three things:

1. List what you do in a day, and number them;

2. Allocate time for each activity;

3. Re-number the activities according to the amount of time used up for each activity.

If you did, you would probably be amazed at how bad your priorities are.

TIPS/POINTERS TO TIME MANAGEMENT

I must state at the outset of making suggestions on time-management, that as Christian women, our priorities must be different from those of women of the world. Our first allegiance should be to the things of God. In saying this, I’m not saying what is politically correct in a church, nor am I spewing out platitudes of what I do not know personally. I am saying this because I have been there, I am there, and as long as life continues, will ever be saddled with the issue or goal of making God and His Kingdom’s business No. 1 while navigating all life’s demands.

I am aware that some young women are: students whose main goal is to pass their exams well enough to move to the next stage, either academically, or to join the workforce; single ladies who work, either for themselves or in organizations where they have to satisfy the irksome demands of their bosses while balancing their romantic lives with their intended partner, or simply looking to attract such partner; young mothers with one or more young children, including single mothers.

I daresay that while some women may have more time on their hands than others, each demographic has its own peculiar problem; I remind you that nowhere is cool (i.e. there are problems everywhere).

So here are some generic pointers regarding how we can manage our time:

As Christians, we know that we belong to a Kingdom with its own values, and demands, and unless we stick to Christian norms, we cannot grow; we will remain carnal Christians, constantly defeated. The three main norms which are commanded of every Christian are: prayer, Bible study, fellowship.

These are non-negotiable, and we must find the time to do them. So the bottom line is this: let nothing drive you, or possess you, to put same above your God, or your family, in that order. If you do, you will have nothing at the end of your life to show for all that running around in spite of accolades you heap up for yourself. The accolades will become rusty, as brighter, fresher, more driven people take your place in the marketplace of the world; and it would be sad indeed if you found yourself repeating after King Solomon: “all is vanity, a chasing after the wind” (Ecclesiastes 1:14).

Please stay tuned for the pointers…
